Maya Tzonev is an Ohio-based visual artist whose work surrounds the idea of the body as both a home and as an unfamiliar environment. Working primarily with textiles, she draws on the uncomfortable and often alien experiences of physical growth and adolescence to reclaim space and by extension, power.

Maya was named a 2025 YoungArts Winner with Distinction in Visual Arts and has received multiple national Gold and Silver Medals from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, along with two regional American Visions nominations. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Traverse City area—including at the Dennos Museum and Higher Art Gallery—as well as nationally in Miami, Florida. Maya is currently studying at the Rhode Island School of Design.
